I’m J Smiles, comedian, Alzheimer’s and Dementia activist, and family caregiver. You may know me from Parenting Up™, where we’re a family of caregivers taking care of our family members together. Welcome to P.U.B. the Parenting Up Blog

I believe that angels walk among us. The beauty in that is that you will never know what it is, what they look like, or sound like. That’s why it’s so important to always be kind to everyone you meet. They may not always be the kindest to you back, but never allow anyone to defer you from doing what you know is right. Because you never know who you may touch and who life you may change by being kind to someone. You have the ability to turn someone’s day around just by flashing a smile, asking how they are, or something as simple as holding the door open for someone who is walking behind you. The way you perform the kind act itself doesn’t matter, just that you are performing it. A kind gesture or a kind word can stay with someone for the rest of their life. They may even be inspired by you to be kind to others themselves, and that will create a cycle that will be on the way to making the world a better place. I know you may not think that your simple kind act can do all of that, but the fact of the matter is, you never know. Just as fire spreads, so does the contagious effect of love and positive energy. There’s so much negative in the world, why would you not want to add some good to it. Add some peace to it. And some kindness to it. So, today, I encourage you to be kind to someone, especially a stranger. Speak life and healing into them that could be the voice they need to put their life on a better path.
