“Why am I still sleepy after a good night's sleep?”
I’m J Smiles, comedian, Alzheimer’s and Dementia activist, and family caregiver. You may know me from Parenting Up™, where we’re a family of caregivers taking care of our family members together. Welcome to P.U.B. the Parenting Up Blog.
If you are a driver, this post is for you. When you decide to get behind a wheel, you not only take on the responsibility for yourself, but for others as well: other drivers and pedestrians. Unfortunately, there are far too many people in this world that don't take that responsibility to heart. This is people who get behind the wheel incapacitated either by drinking and driving, texting while driving, falling asleep, and that’s just three! There’s others of course, but those are three examples that give you a great visual of what I’m explaining. Not only should we be responsible because it’s the right thing to do, but because we hope that the other drivers on the road are being mindful of us. We have to have that mutual respect for others and their well-being. If you know that you aren’t capable of driving for whatever reason, don’t. Listen to your instincts. Listen to your moral guide. Always remember to put out the energy that you want to receive. Always treat your neighbor as you’d want them to treat you. Luckily, we live in a rideshare world. There’s numerous options available that will safely get you to your desired location. You can consider this post a public service announcement. Maybe it should be since I once got behind the wall when I was too tired to drive. I’m thankful that I did so at a red light with other cars simply honking for me to drive, and not as I was driving, which could have been deadly, or another life changing event. So, remember to always be mindful and aware of yourself and those around you.
