“Caregiving Chose Me 4x's: A Conversation with Janice Goldmintz”
I’m J Smiles, comedian, Alzheimer’s and Dementia activist, and family caregiver. You may know me from Parenting Up™, where we’re a family of caregivers taking care of our family members together. Welcome to P.U.B. the Parenting Up Blog.
We all know someone who is stuck in their ways. Maybe it’s you. Everything is either your way or the highway on the hottest day in July. I understand both sides of that. One, it’s good to be sturdy and firm in your decisions and choices for your life. Especially if it;s something that is less favorable. For example, shopping. If you are already in credit card debt, and you’ve made the decision that you were not going to do any unnecessary shopping for six months, stand firm in that. However, there’s another side to that coin. To be so steadfast and stubborn! Being stuck in your ways can cause progress in your life to be halted. To be so stuck in your ways that you don’t allow yourself to open your mind to new ideas and ideologies. And it doesn’t even have to be that deep. It can be something as simple as preventing you from being promoted at work. Be firm and knowledgeable of yourself so much so, that you are able to open your mind to other things and still keep hold of your own beliefs. So, if you are the one who has these characteristics, just remember my words. Just because you open yourself up to something different in new doesn’t mean you are not true to yourself and authentic. If this is not you but someone you know, share this post with them. Hopefully they will embrace the freedom that comes with having an open mind.
