“Caregiver, Caree, Badazz: Jen Hardy”
I’m J Smiles, comedian, Alzheimer’s and Dementia activist, and family caregiver. You may know me from Parenting Up™, where we’re a family of caregivers taking care of our family members together. Welcome to P.U.B. the Parenting Up Blog.
I get it. There’s been moments in your life where you really wanted to give up. The weight of the world can sometimes be so heavy that it may seem impossible that you’ll be able to stay afloat. But in those times it’s important to remember that this too shall pass. Now, I’m not saying that to be religious or preachy. I’m saying it because it is honestly the whole truth. For the most part, there have been past battles that you have overcome. There have been other battles in your life that you’ve won. Some of these may be more difficult than others, but if you’re reading this now, you made it then, and you will continue to do so. Never give up on yourself. Regardless of what others may predict or say about you; no matter what someone else may speak over your life, you have the power. You have the power to ignore the naysayers and come through the other side better than before. And you know what, if you don’t have the will, the strength, the vision, or the hope to push forward for yourself, do it for someone you love. Fight for those who love you, and continue marching on. Continue to be the symbol of resilience and of someone who is not easily broken. Just breathe, stay calm, and believe in yourself. Because no matter how dense the gray cloud in the eye of the storm may seem, this too shall pass.
